Bats are the second largest group of mammals and have many unique adaptations, including active flight, echolocation and the ability to hibernate. The Bat Research Group undertakes studies on the taxonomy, ecology and life strategies of bats in different regions of the world, including the temperate zone and tropics. Our main research focus is on the taxonomy of African bat species, hibernation strategies of Palearctic species and their coevolution with specific pathogens.
