Innovative methods of monitoring the genetic integrity and biological condition of crucian carp under conditions of threat from the invasive activity of gibel carp (2025–2028)

The goal is to develop and apply a methodology for genetic monitoring of native crucian carp threatened by the invasion of gibel carp specifically aimed at detecting the genetic integrity of crucian carp, hybridization of native and invasive species and genetic introgression by non-native species. Methods of conventional analysis of microsatellite loci in combination with mitochondrial genes and modern ddRAD sequencing technology will be optimized and tested. The subsequent goal is to develop an innovative and effective methodology for non-invasive monitoring of the health status of crucian carp, focused on target groups – bacteria and ectoparasites using DNA metabarcoding. This approach will reveal the transfer of invasive species – associated microbes and parasites to the native species.
